When God Calls You To "Come", You Can Go

Just a little announcement about the direction that God has called us in our lives. This last Sunday night I preached a message entitled Launch Out! A quick summary of the message is that in Luke 5, Jesus told Peter to "launch out into the deep for a catch." What Jesus is trying to teach his followers is not how to catch fish (because this is the total opposite way to catch fish in the middle east) but about how we must live our lives. It corresponds with Matthew 14, where Jesus calls Peter, who is snugly secure inside a boat on a stormy sea, to "come" out onto the water and walk with Jesus. Peter wasn't in a canoe where he could tiptoe out and test the water, but rather on a boat where he had to launch himself out and hope that he would find secure footing.

It is the same for us. When God calls us to "Come" we can, and must, go. Whatever God calls you to do, you need to do it totally and completely, launching yourself into what He has called you to do. We cannot afford to keep one foot in our old, fleshly lives and think that we can step into the fullness of the life that Christ has called us into.

On that note, I just wanted to let everyone know that as of this Monday, God has called us to "come" to Magnolia Assembly of God in Port Neches, TX. We will begin our new adventure as the Student Ministries Pastor on April 27, 2008. We had a great time there with the students (getting sick eating pizza and playing volleyball afterwards) and the people. And we have found an echoed heart for ministry in the heart of Pastor Brent Williams.

We ask that you keep us in your prayers as we "launch" ourselves into this new chapter in our lives. I'll continue to keep you updated on this blog, writing weekly, and hopefully daily about what's going on with us down here.
